Recently, I worked with the Managing Director and European Marketing Director at Comfort on a project to create a product configurator for their website. Here's a quick summary of the requirements, workflow and results from the project, including some final renders and images from the website.
The aim of the configurator is to allow customers to build their chair online, order there and then and for manufacturing to happen automatically. This meant that the production had to represent each option accurately to give customers the best representation of what they were ordering.
Given that the inspiration for this project was established early in the process - dictating many aspects of the final output - the business required me to deliver final images to showcase on the site.
As with all projects, starting with a full set of precedent and reference images was extremely helpful.
During the production I spent several days on site reviewing each chair and working closely with the Comfort team to refine the production, remoting to my own PC from their offices. Being close to the team and the product was absolutely essential to ensure we were aligned at all times.
I also collaborated closely with one of Comfort's developers to ensure that there was efficient website infrastructure to create a cataloguing system. This meant future products could be automatically added to the site when produced using a standardised convention
After the 12 week project, I delivered the images of 17 chairs and 2 ottomans to the Senior Leadership at Comfort. I also produced feature function animations and models for clients to download in a variety of formats – including Revit/FBX/OBJ and sketchup. Each object required between 300-500 individual object renderings, with final production rendering lasting around 2 weeks.
"Gordon has been a delight to work with. His attention to detail and superb quality of work made, what was a tough job in a tight timescale, exceedingly efficient and cost-effective. Our customers couldn’t believe his product images were actually CGI renders and not photos. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Collabor8 to anyone looking for a creative and professional product visualisation service."
